回In 2013, three buildings designed by MAD were officially put into use, namely the China Woodcarving Museum, Taihu Sheraton Moon Hotel and Beijing Conrad Hotel. In addition, the Harbin Grand Theater project is progressing smoothly. The main building has completed the structural capping and is expected to be open to the public at the end of 2014. Xinhe Design Center in Xiamen has entered the construction drawing stage and started foundation work. Pingtan Art Museum in Fujian and the second phase of the rockery in Beihai are also progressing steadily.
Last June, MAD's solo exhibition "Shanshui City" was exhibited in a Qing Dynasty courtyard garden in Beijing. At the same time, we released a booklet of the same name "Shanshui City" as MAD's declaration of the ideal future human settlement. We hope to integrate the poetry of mountains and rivers into modern high-density urban life. This will be a long-term dream and a practice in constant experimentation. In 2013, we have put this ideal into practice in several large projects - the large urban complex project in Chaoyang Park, Beijing, and the Zendai Himalaya Plaza at Nanjing South Station have been designed and started construction, and the second phase of Taiping Lake Apartment in Huangshan is also in preparation and in-depth design.
MAD's many overseas projects will also be implemented in 2014, including three residential projects in Rome, Paris and Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. At the end of 2013, MAD was invited to participate in two important international competitions, one for the museum extension in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and the other for the master plan competition for the new financial center in Moscow, the largest competition project in Russia at present. The results of the competition will be announced in 2014.
In the past year, MAD has been active in cultural and artistic exhibitions. In addition to the "Shanshui City" solo exhibition mentioned above, during the Beijing Design Week, Ma Yansong was invited to design the Digital Crystal exhibition with the theme of "Moon Realm". At the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Biennale in December, MAD's "Shanshui·Experiment·Complex" installation was the first release of the Nanjing South Station project. In 2013, Ma Yansong was invited to attend the Summer Davos Annual Meeting and gave a keynote speech. He also gave lectures at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London (UCL), the Berlage Institute in the Netherlands, PLÅT in Oslo, and the Kunsthaus Bregenz in Austria.
The upcoming Year of the Horse will be a year for MAD to continue to move towards the Shanshui City, and related publications will be gradually introduced to the domestic and international vision. Ma Yansong and his MAD firm look forward to everyone thinking about the transformation of the city, proposing new possibilities, and sharing them with everyone.
