On April 11, 2016, invited by Italian media Interni, MAD’s public space installation “Boundless” was exhibited at the 2016 Milan Design Week. Located in the central courtyard of the Cortile d’Onore of the University of Milan, the work attempts to capture and translate the changes caused by wind and light to the environment under the exhibition theme of “Opening Boundaries”, creating a warm, flexible and free new space, bringing an atmosphere of openness, communication and dialogue, and proposing new ideas.

Ma Yansong said: "Architects have always been keen on discussing and defining 'boundaries', allowing buildings to divide space and functions, and distinguish between nature and man-made; and there are various visible and invisible 'boundaries' in society. 'Boundaries' distinguish and protect differences, but at the same time they may block openness and communication. Instead of breaking these boundaries, I want to make boundaries more dynamic and interesting. So we decided to make such an attempt at the boundary between courtyard space and indoor space strictly defined by traditional architecture, creating a new public space that blurs tradition and contemporary, inside and outside. Boundaries can be more than a line to distinguish inside and outside." The curtain made of ETFE material extends from the arch of the traditional building to the ground of the courtyard, forming a new triangular space. The space changes with the transmission of sunlight and the flow of wind, becoming a public place for people to relax and communicate in daily life.

"Boundless" will be exhibited at the Cortile d'Onore of the University of Milan from April 12 to 23, 2016.
