We are honored to share that Jiaxing Station Park has been recognized with the 2025 American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Honor Award in Urban Design. This prestigious recognition celebrates our collaborative vision for a new model of transit-oriented development where landscape, architecture, and urban life seamlessly converge.
Located in Jiaxing, Zhejiang, China, the project reimagines the traditional urban station as “a station in nature.” What was once a congested, vehicle-centric district has been transformed into a vibrant public park situated above a multimodal underground transit hub. Visitors now experience an extraordinary green space that both reconnects communities and overlooks the bustling train platforms below.
By relocating transportation infrastructure underground, the project has unlocked an expansive civic landscape. Green space coverage increased from 25% to 73%, creating ecological and social benefits for the city. The design introduces more than 1,800 new trees, 100% native planting, stormwater retention systems, and photovoltaic panels, all while providing shaded spaces for recreation, wellness, and cultural activity.
Jiaxing Station Park establishes a new paradigm for urban transit centersone where the natural environment is a defining element of civic identity. Beyond its ecological contributions, the park fosters social life and community vibrancy.
It offers flexible spaces for festivals, markets, square dancing, and traditional activities such as calligraphy, Go, and Taiji, ensuring that the park serves both daily life and cultural continuity.
The project has turned the district into a model of sustainable urban revitalization, providing shade, biodiversity, resilience, and new opportunities for civic engagement.
The 2025 ASLA Awards Jury praised the project as:
“A new paradigm for urban transit centers where the natural environment plays a major role. Integrating landscape into this transit hub creates a new identity for the city as well as environmental benefits and health and wellness benefits for people. The design connects all of the different functions and their users within this landscape in exciting and unexpected ways.”
Jiaxing Station Park stands as an example of how infrastructure can be reimagined to serve both people and the planet. We are proud to see this vision honored by the ASLA and grateful to all collaborators who made it possible.
