In the interview, Ma Yansong spoke about how his mentor Zaha Hadid inspired him regarding the relationship between architecture, people, nature, and art. Ma also shared insights from his series of international projects, including Beverly Hills, a high-rise in New York, the Lucas Narrative Art Museum, and the recently unveiled Harbin Grand Theatre. He discussed his design philosophy of "mountain-water cities," an Eastern-inspired design theory that organically integrates people, nature, and architecture.
