Ma Yansong designed three hand-woven mattresses named "Niku Rug" based on the nature of Labrador dogs, which are attached to their owners, active and lively in childhood, and love to eat meat. "Niku" means "meat" in Japanese. "Niku Rug" is hand-woven with three different colors of wool, highlighting the different shades of meat. Different from the traditional closed cages that hold animals, "Niku Rug" is a meat-shaped blanket that accompanies Labrador dogs to grow and play, and also provides a comfortable space for Labrador dogs to live with their owners.
The "Design: For Dogs" exhibition was exhibited at the Shanghai Himalayas Art Museum from August 8 to October 11, 2015. Other participants in the exhibition include 13 internationally renowned architects/designers, including Atelier Bow-Wow, Toyo Ito, MVRDV, Kengo Kuma, Konstantin Grcic, Kazuyo Sejima, TORAFU ARCHITECTS Inc., Hiroshi Naito, Shigeru Ban, Sou Fujimoto, Reiser+Umemoto, Hara Design Institute and Kenya Hara himself.
