At the groundbreaking ceremony, Lucas spoke about the significance of the museum to him and his dreams: "This is an art museum, but I see it more as a museum about humanity. Popular art can provide insight into society, reflecting what people want to become, what they desire, and who they truly are – it’s the narrative art of people’s stories, history, and belief systems. I often joke that we need a museum to support rare art that people seldom hear about but enjoy. This museum is my dream to make that wish come true. Thank you, Ma Yansong, the genius architect I admire. I always thought this should be a very special museum. When children see it from afar, they will be curious and want to explore the world inside. Ma Yansong, he designed three of them."

In an interview with CBS, Ma Yansong mentioned: "An open city with an inclusive culture, especially innovative architecture, is very important. I’m thrilled to work with American legend Lucas to create a world-class landmark in Los Angeles. I hope our collective efforts will help Los Angeles continue to be one of the most creative global metropolises."

Located in Exposition Park, Los Angeles, the museum acts as a gateway to the park, gently "landing" in its natural surroundings. It resembles a "floating" futuristic warship, greeting visitors with a mysterious and surreal posture. Inside, the building feels like a massive, bright, and open cavern. Natural light fills the space, guiding people toward different functional areas. The ground floor and roof serve as vast public spaces, returning them to the city and its citizens for shared use. Visitors can engage in activities, relax, and converse with the surrounding natural environment, directly experiencing nature within the urban setting.

The $1.5 billion Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is a nonprofit world-class museum located in Los Angeles, covering approximately 11 acres. It was created and supported by the Lucas family, who also funded its design and construction. In 2014, MAD, led by Ma Yansong, won the international competition for the museum and became the lead architect. From 2014 to the present, MAD has provided three distinct, site-specific design proposals for the project.

The museum will house collections, films, and exhibitions focused on visual storytelling, representing the highest levels of art and cinematic evolution. The museum’s collection is valued at least $400 million, entirely donated by the Lucas family, including over 10,000 works of art, illustrations, and movie memorabilia. George Lucas said, "The ultimate and entire meaning of this museum is to inspire people’s imagination and to embrace all the possibilities of artistic creation." The city of Los Angeles praised the museum as "the greatest gift to the public that the city could ever receive."

The museum is expected to be completed and open in the second half of 2021.
