Cover image for MAD Architectural Models to be Featured in 'MAD X' at Centre Pompidou

The Centre Pompidou in France will unveil MAD's permanent collection solo exhibition "MAD X" on April 9. "X", the Roman numeral 10, represents the architectural models from 10 MAD projects collected by the Centre Pompidou in 2018. Just as "MAD" has a double meaning, "X" also has another meaning, that is, "unknown". Ma Yansong said: "Naming the exhibition with 'X' is to express the desire for the unknown, which is more important than summarizing the past. This collection exhibition is also a record of MAD's work process and ideological evolution over the past decade."

Some of these 10 projects are already completed and in use, while others are under construction. They demonstrate MAD's roots in the East, which is a dialogue with nature, and witness MAD's "crazy", unrealistic and emotional architectural practice in the 15 years since its establishment in 2004; their appearance has ignited people's enthusiasm and imagination for the future of architecture.

This batch of model works covers different types of buildings, including MAD's first overseas completed work "Monroe Building", the "Chaoyang Park Plaza" that moves the landscape of old Beijing to the new Beijing, the "Four-Leaf Clover House" transformed from a traditional Japanese house into a kindergarten, the world-class museum "Lucas Museum of Narrative Art" created by George Lucas, the father of Star Wars, and MAD's first residential project to be completed in Europe this year-Paris UNIC.
