This is the first time that Beijing International Design Week has held an award selection activity for architectural design. Although it has only been established for three years, Beijing International Design Week has now entered the ranks of the world's Class A urban design weeks, and is listed as one of the world's most influential international design events along with Milan Design Week, London Design Festival, Berlin Design Week, etc. The theme of the first "D21 China Architectural Design Award" is "Design Enhances Real Estate Value", which aims to promote investment in Chinese commercial buildings, continuously improve design standards, and promote Chinese architecture to the world.

Previously, Ma Yansong had just won the "Embris Best Skyscraper Award 2011" for his completed masterpiece "Monroe Building", and this time, a project that has just started construction helped Ma Yansong win the domestic architectural design award. Due to the innovative development of the "mountain and water city" architectural concept, the business real estate complex project located at the south gate of Chaoyang Park in Beijing, the Junhao Central Park Plaza project, won the "D21 China Architecture Design Award (Commercial Category)" award.
The guest judges commented that the project adopts the freehand design of urban landscape in appearance, which is rich in the charm of Chinese traditional culture and very modern, and is a modern presentation of traditional Chinese elements. Different from the previous CBD landmark buildings, the modern design of the project explains the architectural concept of "mountain and water city", integrating humanistic living and office with the natural environment, which is an innovative attempt to the previous architectural concept.

Ma Yansong expressed his understanding of the concept of Shanshui City in his acceptance speech. He said: "How to find new directions for modern architecture and cities from the traditional context is what I am concerned about. It is also a question of whether Chinese architecture can truly modernize and go international in its own way." Ma Yansong pointed out that an international city "imitating mountains and waters" should be guided by inheriting the spirit of traditional Shanshui and regaining the traditional values of nature, and then the innovation of architectural form and even the transformation of urban form.
