As the first architect to apply his design to a foreign landmark building, Ma Yansong was awarded the "Design of the Year Award" at the second Audi Art and Design Awards ceremony. The award jury believes that Ma Yansong's achievements indicate that the new generation of Chinese designers has entered the era of "Made in China".

The second Audi Art and Design Award Ceremony was held at 20:00 on May 9, 2013 at 751D PARK Fashion Creative Plaza in Beijing. It was hosted by FAW-Volkswagen Audi and co-organized by two top art institutions, Ullens Center for Contemporary Art and New York China Center. The award advocates cross-border cooperation between art, design and various disciplines. The jury selects candidates from the two dimensions of art and design. This year's award innovatively proposed the theme of "Future Creation by Integrating East and West", aiming to promote the development of Chinese local art and design through the collision and integration of Eastern and Western art and design, and to provide support for "China Creation".
