The 2018 MAD Travel Fund recipients have been announced today. This year, six university students from over 300 applicants worldwide have been selected to receive funding from MAD to undertake world travels centered around their respective research topics.

Travel destinations: France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland - Tatiana Southey-Bassols - University College London, UK
Research topic: How architectural environments in oppressive cultural contexts preserve cultural memory
Travel destinations: China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan - Khao Vu - Harvard Design School, USA
Research topic: The "organic properties" of space and finding new discoveries in contemporary culture
Travel destinations: UK, Japan, Switzerland - Zhang Xinyi - AA School of Architecture, UK
Research topic: The future of Chinese architecture
Travel destinations: China, Japan, North Korea, Russia - Zhou Tong - Columbia University, USA
Research topic: "Provocative gentleness" in architecture
Travel destinations: Portugal, Spain - Zhu Zhonghui - Princeton University, USA
Research topic: Beyond white walls: Color, nature, and materials in Mexican traditional and modern architecture

These students will complete their travel by fall and share their academic findings later this year.
