The building's predecessor, like the surrounding residences, was a traditional Japanese two-story wooden prefabricated house. To provide more educational services for children in the community, the operator of the kindergarten decided to dismantle the home where the family had lived for many years and build a new kindergarten on the same plot. In response to this request, MAD's design preserved and reinforced the original wooden pillars and pitched roof frame, incorporating them into the new structure. On the exterior of the main wooden structure, MAD designed a brand new white asphalt "tent shell," wrapping the old wooden structure like a cloth, creating a futuristic, abstract "white castle."
