On May 7, 2016, at the invitation of Xiamen Construction Bureau and Xiamen Planning Committee, Ma Yansong attended the "7th Global Architecture Masters Forum" in Xiamen and delivered a keynote speech, introducing his architectural practice and design concepts to more than 800 audiences on site.

Ma Yansong shared with the audience his views on the continuation of Eastern culture in architecture, urban planning and development, the way out of modernization, the comparison between parameters and art, social housing, etc. He also elaborated on the proposition of "Shanshui City": "Architecture is functional and spiritual, but from a historical perspective, great architecture is a collection of the attributes of the times and the emotions of the architects, and its spiritual connotation is more valuable." During his speech, Ma Yansong also announced that MAD's first project in Xiamen, Xinhe R&D Center, is under construction.
