MAD's Chaoyang Park Plaza has been selected as one of the top five finalists for the 2018 International Highrise Award (IHA). The IHA is considered the world's most important high-rise building award. In 2012, MAD's Absolute Tower won the International Best High-Rise Building Award of the year.

The "Chaoyang Park Plaza" project started and ended from 2012 to 2017. The building is 142 meters high and the total construction area of the building complex is about 220,000 square meters. It consists of 10 buildings, which are staggered in height, like an unfolding landscape painting or a group of bonsai. Unlike the modern buildings on the edge of New York's Central Park that emphasize the sense of boundary enclosure, this group of futuristic buildings in Beijing emphasizes the extension and penetration of nature into the city, "naturalizing" the man-made objects in the city, and using the method of "borrowing scenery" in Chinese classical garden architecture to break the boundary between Chaoyang Park and the city, so that the natural and man-made landscapes complement each other and make people blend into the scenery.

The top five buildings this year were selected from 36 high-rise buildings in 15 countries. They are:

"Chaoyang Park Plaza", Beijing, China, MAD Architects (China)

"Beirut Terraces", Beirut, Lebanon, Herzog & de Meuron (Switzerland)

"MahaNakhon", Bangkok, Thailand, Bharo Ole Scheeren (Thailand) and OMA (China)

"Oasia Hotel Downtown", Singapore, WOHA (Singapore)

"Torre Reforma", Mexico City, Mexico, L. Benjamín Romano (Mexico)

The winners of the 2018 International Highrise Award will be announced on November 1, 2018 in Frankfurt, Germany.
